Hi, my name is Ksenia, and I’m the chief foodie behind Breakfast Criminals – a blog and a movement created to share my love for superfood breakfasts with you. As Cameron says in The Body Book, you should feed your hunger first thing in the morning. Starting your day with a nutritious bowl of wholesome foods prepared with love will energize and help you avoid cravings throughout the day.
Smoothie bowls are a great (and fun!) way to get your intake of fiber (fruits and vegetables), protein (nuts, hemp seeds), carbs and healthy fats (chia, flax) in one meal. I add spinach or other dark leafy greens to my breakfast smoothies – while it doesn’t impact the taste, the health benefits are tremendous. I took this smoothie bowl one healthy step further by adding a tablespoon of chlorofyll (a supplement of naturally occurring molecule that gives plants their green color). The result is an detoxifying, alkalizing, anti-inflammatory superfood powerhouse that is, on top of everything else, absolutely delicious.
Ingredients to Blend: (makes two bowls)
- 1/2 cup steel cut oats + 2 tbsps chia seeds soaked overnight in water
- 1 pitaya smoothie pack (I used Pitaya Plus)
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup spinach (fresh or frozen)
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- 1/4 cup Aloe Vera Juice
- 1 tbsp chlorofyll
- 1 tbsp raw almonds soaked overnight and peeled
- 1 tbsp flax seeds
- 1 tbsp goji berries
This smoothie bowl supports digestion (healthy enzymes in soaked oats and nuts), supports healthy heart and bones (magnesium in pitaya, aloe vera and spinach), boosts the immune system (beta-carotene in spinach), and reduces inflammation (omega-3 fatty acids in Pitaya and chia).
