Ahh, facial rollers! Where have you been all my life? As these little contraptions grow in popularity, we’ve all been trying to figure out how to best use them and may even be somewhat confused as to which kind to buy.
Luckily this post is all about how to select a good quality roller and how to best use them. Here we highlight three of the best rollers ranging from inexpensive to luxurious—and two unique tips on how to use them.
But first, how does a gem roller even work? By cosmetic definition, a gem roller helps support lymphatic drainage to reduce the appearance of puffiness, and wrinkles. Traditionally, jade facial rollers are an ancient Chinese beauty secret designed to reduce inflammation and promote health of the skin via the heat detoxification agent of the jade—boosting micro-circulation. The rose quartz roller is designed to stimulate the skin as well by reducing the stress and negativity that hold tension in our muscles and create fine lines.
Both gem rollers are soothing and de-stressing at-home beauty treatments; designed to firm the look of skin through gentle massage. From what I’ve read, I would say both stones have cooling and peaceful properties—both aiding to support circulation, natural collagen production, and reduce inflammation.
So without further ado, here’s an edited shopping list for selecting the best facial roller in your budget range. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of these three.
THE BEST FACIAL ROLLERS FOR EVERY BUDGET
Low-Range $ – Vinmax Royal Jade Roller, Amazon, $9.98. This is the jade roller I own (as pictured above). I haven’t had any issues with it. It’s sold as a slimming tool that promotes facial massage, rejuvenating the face and neck. You will most likely notice a slimming effect due to the de-puffing effect of the roller. I will say the roller is soothing and relaxes tired and sore muscles (more on that below). I also notice a de-puffing quality when run under the eyes.
Mid-Range $$ – Herbivore Jade Facial Roller, Sephora, $30. Herbivore’s take on the jade roller is meant to be extra durable and is designed with ethically-mined jade stones aimed to improve circulation and vitality, helping to freshen your complexion and create luminosity. This jade roller receives the clean seal at Sephora and is made without parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
High-Range $$$ – Rose Quartz Facial Massage Roller in Rose Gold, Argan Republic, $46. There’s also the option for a rose quartz roller. The healing properties of rose quartz, combined with the rolling action of the massager have been said to calm inflammation, reduce puffiness and again stimulate detoxification, lymphatic drainage, and promote product penetration. The difference with this rose quartz roller, however, is that is made with organ oil. Packed full of minerals, rose quartz facial rollers are also good for the heart and circulation, bringing oxygen to skin for extra luster to the skin.

TIPS FOR USING YOUR FACIAL ROLLER
For A Tired Face: Suffering from Tired Face Syndrome? There’s a roller for that!
If you’re anything like me, the tireless late nights and the busy early mornings can really show on your face…especially in the way it feels! I have found that a cool jade facial roller is ideal for doing a quick and soothing facial massage before I get out bed. So if you’re so tired your face hurts, keep a facial roller in your nightstand to soothe the achy hallows of the cheeks and under the eyes. You’ll find the coolness of the jade stone a Godsend and feel a bit more revived for the day ahead. I recommend sticking with a full five minute massage while laying in bed. You’ll love the natural cool feel of the jade stone, but if you predict an even harder morning ahead, I recommend storing your roller in the fridge and rolling while you make your morning brew. “Rolling” makes for the ultimate “me moment” before the kids get up. It feels heavenly. Try it and thank me later. And yes, sleep deprivation is REAL as a mom!
For An At-Home Massage: Upgrade your at-home facial massage with a jade roller!
If you’re into facial massages as much I am, then I recommend up-leveling the experience with one or two facial rollers (using two rollers, one on each side of the face, helps elevate the experience and helps shave off time). Add a few drops of facial oil onto the skin then glide your roller/s across your face to help disperse and absorb the oil. Beauty Bonus: What’s extra helpful this time of year is to cool your roller in the fridge to drain congested lymph nodes, rid the body of toxins, and help with sinus issues.
